AML regulation.

Legal and regulatory news on the fight against money laundering in Belgium and in Europe.

The Belgian AML framework is built on three levels: European regulations (AMLR, AMLD6, MiCA), the Belgian Act of 18 September 2017, and the sector circulars published by the NBB and the FSMA. The creation of the AMLA in Frankfurt in 2025 has already started to bend supervisory doctrine, in particular on the risk-based approach, the beneficial ownership threshold and the supervision of payment and crypto service providers. The articles in this category follow those developments closely: new versions of the FSMA questionnaires, CTIF recommendations, European case law, and the timetable of application for obliged entities (notaries, accounting firms, accountants, lawyers, real estate agents, company service providers).
